Mastopexy (breast lift)

Lift and reshape sagging breasts, and reposition the nipple.

A breast lift removes extra skin and raises the breast tissue so the breasts sit higher and look firmer. It can be combined with implants when you also want more volume.

What to know

What is a breast lift?+

Mastopexy lifts breasts that have lost firmness and position, for example after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight loss. Excess skin is removed, the breast tissue is reshaped, and the nipple is moved to a higher position.

Scars+

The scars depend on how much lift you need. They can go around the areola, down from the areola to the breast crease, and sometimes along the crease under the breast. Your surgeon shows you where yours will be.

Recovery: what to expect+

Expect swelling, bruising and soreness. A supportive bra is worn for a few weeks, and heavy lifting and strenuous exercise are avoided until you are cleared. The breasts keep settling over several months.

Risks and things to know+

Risks include bleeding, infection, visible scars, changes in nipple sensation, asymmetry, problems with healing, and the possibility that breastfeeding is affected. Breasts can sag again with time, pregnancy or weight change. Results differ from person to person, and any procedure can need a touch-up or revision.

Questions to bring to your consultation+

Do I need a lift only, or a lift with an implant? Where will my scars be? Will this affect breastfeeding? How long will the result last?

This page is general information, not medical advice. Your surgeon will talk about your own situation during your consultation.
